For the last couple of years I have been working with the UK charity Evidence for Development and the University of Malawi on an open source software platform for the development community which is maintained by the University of Malawi.
Evidence for Development is a small UK-based charity that aims to improve the effectiveness of projects that provide aid to the poorest people in the world. It seeks to achieve this aim simply by making better information available to those projects so they can better target aid and better measure its effect, using novel and innovative methods and technologies.
My input has been to support the development team in Malawi in adopting open source methods and technologies to build a software platform that field workers can use to analyse their data. open-ihm is currently actively used at Self-Help Africa and other groups around the world.
